That's quite tragic... I can only imagine that I've hurt someone this way, in the past... It does incur sadness, if that's what you were aiming for.

I suppose that friendship is somewhat of a "bridge", yet perhaps not to "something more" in the way you wrote, here... Perhaps, it is a bridge that guides us through childhood, and then onward to the uncertain futurity. Sure, love stands between friends, at times... Yet true friends will know that loving someone can never set them apart. If I ever had a boyfriend who hated my best friend, or complained about her... Oh, he'd be gone far too soon to mutter another word. If someone you thought you loved because they were kind turns out to be a jerk behind someone's back... Well, I suppose you should not love them, because they are genuinely cruel.

I hope your situation can be amended... The best thing to do, I've found, is tell your friend. You never know if they'll care, or if they even realize what they've done, until you confront them.
